The Never Ending Debate on Reservation in India

When we say the word, reservation everyone means and refers specifically to caste-based reservation.  Reservation is applicable in educational institutions and in government jobs, PSUs, at the governmental level, politics, and administration. But in India, it opens up for a variety of debates in India on society, economics, and justice.  Why Reservation and specifically Caste-based Reservation? Countries around the world have various types of affirmative actions, and in India, it is primarily through reservation. Due to the backwardness and historic disadvantages faced, India has a system of caste-based reservation, enshrined in the Constitution of India, yet has been practised since the 1932 Poona Pact. Why are Americans angry?

This is a very short article based on popular social media discourses I encounter every day. I am not going to make a judgement on them but just going to enlist them. These are multiple perspectives handpicked and aggregated.

Americans are angry because-

  • 1.1 million Americans died during COVID-19 which is much higher than the number of deaths during World War II.
  • The exit of the USA from Afghanistan was chaotic and many were shocked by the lack of proper execution on the ground which led to the fall of Kabul in the hands of the Taliban which was a massive costly affair for the  American taxpayer.
  • On January 6th Insurrection and Aftermath.
  • The high inflation in the country has pushed the cost of living.
  • High Gas Prices Aftermath Russia-Ukraine War.
  • Roe vs Wade was overturned. 
  • They hate guns and gun violence but no one is doing anything on that. \
  • Politicians take money from gun lobby only do nothing. 
  • Billions are being spent on Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan while Americans are struggling. 
  • A convicted felon is still not in prison and able to do anything due to privilege. 
  • They have to choose between an Old Man and a Con Man.
  • People need a solution to the Southern Border. 
  • The current judiciary is the most conservative ever and their agenda is pretty much clear.
  • The president and ex-President are now going to have immunity for certain actions. 
  • They need an alternative to both the Presidential candidates. 
  • Biden is too old and Trump is always lying.
  • The first Presidential Debate was a sham. 
  • CNN failed to do fact-checking. 
  • Project 2025.

The result for the Kerala Elections 2026 was declared on 4th May. UDF bounced back to power with 102 seats, and LDF collapsed to a record low of 35 seats, and for the first time, BJP won three seats in Southern Kerala. The big guns of LDF, a dozen senior ministers of the cabinet, lost.
