The Congress party had lost the 2014 and 2019 General elections bringing it down to its lowest tally in the history of the party's electoral battle. In September 2022, the party started Bharat Jodo Yatra led by ex-party President Rahul Gandhi as the front runner, covering 4000 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. This was largely seen as a makeover for the party aimed at reviving and keeping the spirit of the party alive.
