Summary of the podcast

Generally, these topics aren’t much available in the mainstream media, because they are believed hard to crack and don't address the basics. But, through our podcasts, we disprove this misconception that these cannot be understood by common people. We explain in simple terms various subtopics under this vast topic in the form of conversational and discussion styles. Everything is easy to follow and understandable in the episode.

Karnataka is the most important and sought-after state for election not only due to its size but also due to its economic strength in South India comprising the large metropolis of Bangalore. It is also the only South Indian state where BJP was able to come to power and still has a strong presence. Apart from that, Karnataka is the only South Indian state where the political fight is between the top two national parties BJP and the Congress. Bangalore has been the cash cow for all parties in Karnataka including JD(S). Congress after successive losses across India, the only metro city which it does have a significant presence remains to be Bangalore.

The current ruling BJP is facing a tough challenge from the Opposition. Faced with corruption and anti-incumbency. Hence, the contest is growing tighter between both Congress and BJP with a triangular contest with JS(S) as well. Karnataka is also peculiar and is well known for defections. Before elections, parties witness a large number of defections. In September 2022, the party started Bharat Jodo Yatra led by ex-party President Rahul Gandhi as the front runner, covering 4000 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. This was largely seen as a makeover for the party aimed at reviving and keeping the spirit of the party alive. The new development of Rahul Gandhi's disqualification post the defamation case verdict recently, will certainly determine how the party will move forward with the same. In 2021, BJP replaced its strongman CM B S Yeddyurappa with Basavaraj which started the downfall of the popularity of the government and growing resentment against the incumbents.

With the election to key states this year (2023) Bharat Jodo Yatra saw massive importance in the state of Karnataka, in terms of crowd and media attention. The question remains to be whether this will translate to votes or not. Here is an analysis of one of the most important and magnificent political extravaganza in South India. Tarun Kumar and Jairam R Prabhu converse on the latest developments on the issue and pass on facts without disturbing your understanding of the issue. Stay tuned for more such episodes.
