How Can the Opposition Politically Capitalise on the Current Protests?

Image
There are massive protests happening in Delhi-NCR over the demand for the resignation of the  Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar due to the discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Amid all this, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has de-notified Jantar Mantar as a designated venue for protests and demonstrations, following recommendations from a committee set up to examine alternative locations.  According to the decision, three new venues have been designated for holding protests and demonstrations: Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi. These protests are happening on an issue which was seldom in the public domain just three months back. Today, we are witnessing a strong gathering of opposition amidst the ongoing political climate for 12 years that was dominated by the BJP. Today, the opposition is setting the agenda, and the BJP is just reacting to it. The Protests against the CEC and ECI have put a big chance in favour of op...

Obsessions of a Firewright - A Book of Poems For You

Image
Prayer to a Flame O flame, I offer my mind unto thee Cleanse me of my misdeeds My godforsaken memories Burn away those thoughts You may deem unworthy Alight a new path for me One not filled with temptation Nor anger nor jealousy Burn in my forehead Whenever I close my eyes Burn between my eyebrows  As the watchful one Who chains my mind from fluttering Into the sea of distraction and disharmony O flame,  I offer my soul unto thee... This book is a collection of poems, that are based on my core beliefs, expectations for the future, and on events in my past. Some of them are poems from my journals. Others, are stanzas, that I wrote on scraps of paper while travelling when I didn't have my journal at hand. Most of these are simply experiences shaped into stories. These poems, don't just reflect who I am as an individual. They represent the values and ideals that have shaped me so far, which have given me a sense of direction in life. If you should glean something after reading th...

How BJP's repealing of farmer bills has changed the political narrative for 2022 and beyond

Image
PM Modi on the day of Guru Nanak Jayanti announced that his government will repeal the three farm laws that were passed a year ago and this was done purely on the request of protesting farmers. Modi claims that this withdrawal was because he was unable to convince of its benefits while farmers believe that it was because of their persistent protests and the opposition parties believe that it was because it's because of their pressure and unconditional support to farmers on the issue. Now, it's clear that each side has its own version of the truth. But the political scientists and analytic journalists have another story to tell.
